Project Overview

As Director of Instructional Design and Senior Producer, I led the development of A Short Guide to Puberty in Females, an educational animated short created in collaboration with animator Rachel Gitlevitch and AMAZE.org. This video was designed to provide young adolescents with a clear and age-appropriate explanation of the physical and emotional changes that occur during female puberty. It covers essential topics such as the role of the pituitary gland and hormones, breast development, pubic hair growth, menstruation, acne, and personal hygiene, all while promoting healthy habits like nutrition, cleanliness, and exercise as tools for managing stress and change.

The project is part of a broader initiative I helped establish through AMAZE.org, which delivers medically accurate, affirming, and globally accessible sex education through digital media. Another related video I produced with Rachel, titled “Why Don’t I Like the Way I Look”, addresses body image and self-esteem during puberty.

Here is the animation “Why Don’t I like The Way I Look”:

Process

Initially brought on as a strategic consultant, I collaborated directly with the founder of AMAZE to shape the vision and framework for the project. As the initiative grew, I transitioned into a leadership role as Director of Instructional Design / Senior Producer, overseeing the creative and production workflows. My work with the animator was a collaborative effort from concept ideation to scripting and storyboarding.

Key responsibilities included:

  • Conceptualizing and launching the AMAZE website and animation platform
  • Designing a global animator contest to recruit young talent and jumpstart production
  • Leading a cross-functional team to scale production workflows and streamline content creation
  • Producing the first 30 animated videos that served as the foundation for the AMAZE platform launch
  • Establishing the instructional design strategy, ensuring all content was aligned with pedagogical best practices and health education standards

This specific short on puberty was part of a carefully curated series aimed at helping young people everywhere access reliable, inclusive sex education in a format that is accessible, engaging, and culturally sensitive.

We created AMAZE to harness the power of digital media to provide young adolescents around the globe with medically accurate, age-appropriate, affirming, and honest sex education they can access directly online—regardless of where they live or what school they attend. Project Outcome

As a parent and educator, I am especially proud of the impact this project has made. The A Short Guide to Puberty in Females video has reached thousands of young people worldwide, becoming a trusted resource in both formal education settings and online learning environments. AMAZE.org has since grown into a global sex education platform, with content translated into 50+ languages and used in classrooms, health clinics, and youth programs around the world.

Here is a short sizzle reel highlighting each of the videos I produced:
This project was a formative professional experience, highlighting my ability to rapidly learn complex topics, facilitate cross-functional creative collaboration, and produce scalable instructional media that makes a lasting difference. The approach and infrastructure I helped build have allowed AMAZE to expand internationally, empowering youth with knowledge, confidence, and tools to navigate their development with clarity and support.
